Did any of you go picking Bull berries with Grandma H.? I can remember that it was a yearly activity to go geather Bull Berries. If some of you dont know what a Bull Berry is, well it grows along the Seaver(SP) River from about Hatch to almost to Richfield. It is a grey bush with long thorns on it, and the Bull berries grow in clumps about the size of your hand. The berries are just a little bit larger than a BB and is so tart that it is hard to eat a hand full.
We would go along the river (about deer season time) and the Bull beries would be bright red and ripe. We then would spread a blanket or tarp under the bush and then beat the bush (this is where beat around the bush come from..Not rellly..ha ha )
After beating around the bush for a while, then we would fold up the blankets or tarps and pour the berries into buckets.. We would spend an entire day getting the berries, then we would take them home and clean them and pick the leaves and dead branches out. Mom would then put them on to boil and when this was done, she would sive(SP) and mash the juice out of them. Next, she would add sugar and Pectin to the juice and make some of the best Jellies and Jam that you ever taisted. Ask your mom to tell you about the Bull Berry picking times we used to have...Aunt May and Ileta could tell you the stories also...

I used to pick them off the bush and pop them in my mouth. I loved the tangy taste!
